Short Takes: Eastern Promises

Eastern Promises has one of the most joyless fucks you'll ever see in a film -- early on, between Viggo Mortensen's gangster and a prostitute. This scene is consistent with David Cronenberg's attitude toward sex in all his films -- sex is never shown as fun, pleasant, or fulfilling. Cronenberg's eventual biographer is going to have a field day with that.
